“All the rhythm and rhymes of India, this is the wellspring of who I am.”

A collection of watercolors by Alakananda Mukerji will be exhibited at Les Beaux Arts Gallery opening Sunday, February 24, and running through Wednesday, April 10, 2019.

Mukerji’s earthy colors and loose brushwork emphasize her Indian background tempered with her American spirit. She grew up by the river Ganges. “I have long since left the narrow streets of Benares where life is awash in a flood of color and a constant stream of souls,“ she explains.

Art professor and Chair of the Studio Art department at Manhattanville College, Mukerji is also a prolific artist. Her watercolors are featured in galleries from New York to Tokyo, Europe and India. She lives in Manhattan, which is another major inspiration for her art.
