Center for Faith Development

The Center for Faith Development nurtures an inward journey of prayer and study along with an outward journey of worship and engagement to deepen our understanding of God's purpose in our lives.
Throughout the year the Center plans, presents, and evaluates programs on relevant issues that educate, stimulate thinking, and promote dialogue. Forums are typically held on Sundays at 11:15 a.m. (see the Calendar for dates). Childcare is available.
Developing Faith Leaders for the 21st Century: A Three Part Lecture Series
- Friday, March 22, 7:30 p.m., Dr. Heidi Hadsell, President Hartford Seminary to speak
- Friday, April 12, 7:30 p.m. Dr. Serene Jones, President Union Theological Seminary to speak
- Friday, October 11, 7:30 p.m., Dr. Gregory E. Sterling, Dean of Yale Divinity School to speak
2013 Lenten Study Opportunities:
- Sundays, February 17 - March 17, 8:30 - 9:30 a.m., Speaking Christian: Why Christian Words Have Lost Their Meaning and Power by Marcus J. Borg
In recent years the Center has offered:
- Bible Study sessions led by guest scholars and preachers
- Meditation classes
- Sessions on building strong relationships given by a local marriage counselor
- Parenting workshops
- An interactive DVD series based on the "Living the Questions" curriculum, with discussion featuring leading scholars in progressive Christianity
Annual activities include:
- The RHCC Lecture Series, established to bring distinguished leaders, either ordained or lay, to this Church and our community, to explore the interface between spiritual values and contemporary culture
- Music forums that address works being performed on Music Sunday and at recitals
- Blessing of the Animals service in the Community House
- Advent Workshop for families
- Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday services
- A Mission Trip for adults and youth to an area in the world needing assistance
Small group gatherings include:
- The Women's Gathering, which provides for the exchange of ideas, nurturing of relationships, and making new discoveries about the lives of one another
- The RHCC Book Club, an extension of the Women's Gathering that meets at a private home about eight times a year
- Women's Spirit Rising, a women's faith-based group that meets once a month
- The Men's Group, sponsoring speakers and providing services for many Church events
- Meditation and Stress Reduction Classes meet weekly
